about Misty
My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that healing happens through connection: with ourselves, others, and the systems we move through. I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver and a dual Bachelor’s degree in Sociology & Psychology from Colorado State University. I have been serving clients in the greater Denver area since 2010.
It can feel isolating and, at times, even shameful to face challenges in our life and in our relationships. My goal is to create a space that shifts away from self-blame and towards self-compassion. I view each person as the expert of their own story, and believe in the power of a collaborative approach that empowers clients to feel confident and live authentically.
I utilize EMDR therapy as well as integrating elements of attachment theory, internal family systems therapy, emotion-focused therapy, strengths-based practice, and trauma-informed care. I aim to create a space that feels safe and meaningful to clients where they can connect with their own inner wisdom.
I specialize in working with individuals and families dealing with complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and relationship challenges.
I am a proud Colorado native. In my spare time, I enjoy being outside, spending time with loved ones, listening to live music, and caring for my 5 rescues. Eduction, literature and life have given me a strong framework for my practice. This includes language, theory, and a way to understand the world through structure and story. But it’s life itself, especially the depth of human connection, that has challenged and expanded that foundation in ways a classroom could not.
I strive to help clients:
identify roadblocks to healthy relationships
understand the roots
of these barriers
facilitate healing & emotional growth
“I believe that vulnerability is a necessity to becoming authentic.”
One cannot selectively be numb. If we are numb to pain, we are also numb to joy. Finding our way to worthiness is a process, but absolutely possible. Each and every one of us is worthy of love and belonging!
For me, counseling offered a safe, unconditional environment to discover the root of my blocks, fears and ambivalence. I was able to connect more to my intuition via a supportive relationship with my therapist and begin making choices based on my truths, needs and wants. I took a closer look at my history which includes divorced parents, a difficult relationship with a step-parent, a gay parent, the losses, the patterns of self-sabotage -- in this history was a narrative which needed tweaking. Through counseling, I was able to re-write my story and begin living a more fulfilling life.
